Choose digital if you want to collect replies, send reminders without thinking about it and correct a detail after sending. Keep paper if the object matters to you, or to some of your guests. And if you are torn, combine the two: a few cards with a QR code for the relatives who love paper, the link for everyone else.
The choice is not about looks: a digital invitation can be as refined as a printed card. It is about what you expect from the invitation once it has gone out. Paper announces; digital announces, then keeps working for you until the big day.
The comparison at a glance
| Criterion | Paper invitation | Digital invitation |
|---|---|---|
| Cost for 100 guests (60 households) | €456 to €966, printing, envelopes and stamps included | Free with the Découverte plan for up to 10 guests, then from €49 as a one-off payment |
| Sending time | Several days to a few weeks: printing, stuffing, postage | The same day: a link by email, SMS or WhatsApp |
| Replies | A reply card to post back, or scattered answers by phone and message | An online form, replies counted for you |
| Reminders | By hand, guest by guest | Automatic by email, at 45, 20 and 10 days before the reply deadline |
| Updates | Impossible once posted: you have to tell everyone | The link never changes, the page can be corrected at any time |
| Environment | Paper, ink and postal transport for every household | No physical mailing; the page is hosted online |
| Keepsake | An object to keep, its real strength | Printable if you wish |
| Guests less at ease online | Reassuring | A link that opens in the browser, no app; the QR code can be printed |
The paper cost comes from a reference quote broken down item by item in our article on invitation prices; the stamp is counted at the real postage band, €3.10 per envelope.
Cost: the most visible difference
For 100 guests, paper costs €456 to €966 once stamps are counted, because every household gets its own envelope. Digital does not depend on the number of households: the Découverte plan is free for up to 10 named guests, and a paid plan starts at €49 for the whole event, hosting included.
Replies: where digital changes the most
A paper invitation collects nothing. Replies come by phone, by message, sometimes never, and keeping the list is up to you. With a digital invitation, each guest replies on their personal link: attendance, plus-ones, dietary needs. You can see who opened the invitation without replying, and reminders go out by email on their own, at 45, 20 and 10 days before your deadline. The methods that get people to reply are in our guide to online RSVPs.
Updates: what paper cannot do
A time that changes, a venue that moves, a shuttle added: on paper, every guest has to be told separately. An online invitation can be corrected, and everyone reads the latest version when they open it. From the Essentiel plan, "Tell the guests" also sends each guest a message, by email and by SMS.
The environment, without overstating it
Digital avoids paper, ink and postal transport for every household. It is not footprint-free: the page is hosted online, and read on phones. Simply remember that there is no physical mailing any more, which is most of the difference for an invitation.
Combining both: the most common answer
Nothing forces you to choose for everyone. Every Invitez-nous invitation has its own QR code, downloadable as an SVG for printing: print a few cards for grandparents and relatives who love the object, with the QR code on the back, and send the link to everyone else. Both lead to the same page, and all replies land in the same place. The wedding QR code guide explains where to put it and how to print it.
In short
- Digital if you want counted replies, automatic reminders and a page that stays up to date.
- Paper if the keepsake matters above all.
- Both if your guests are divided: a card with a QR code for some, the link for the others.
